Episyrphus balteatus disturbed  landing behaviour

Episyrphus_animrot_090718_1656Episyrphus balteatus hoverflies may sometimes follow an oscillating flower. This behaviour is excited by moving the flower when the hoverfly is in the process of landing. Following without landing may continue for a few seconds. From the animation given here it is obvious that the hoverfly is following the flower with a delay. The period of the animation is 2 s. In reality the period is 0.7 s, the delay is approximately 0.1 period  is 70 ms.
