Calopteryx splendens (female) prey capture

Calopteryx are waiting for prey from some perch.

When a prey item is discerned the insect will takeoff approximately in the direction of the prey. The figure given here is from a film. The numbered marks are 30 ms apart. When the prey is at mark 3 the dragonfly is starting its foraging flight.

In the figure given below the dragonfly is indicated by a line with a dot. The red line is called the Line of Sight and indicates the direction to the prey at a particular moment.

Calopteryx splendens is not moving in the direction but is heading at a point ahead of the prey.
